Back to Basics!

Really inspiring: this Back to Basics article in this month's Elle Decoration UK, about a one-bedroom Brooklyn apartment, sparsely - but beautifully! - furnished with reclaimed finds and recycled pieces, proving that you can live better with less.

Home owner David (from LifeEdited): 'The average American uses more living space, consumes more energy and carries more personal debt than he did in 1950. Despite this excess, or perhaps because of it, we find ourselves no happier.' Partner Jacqueline: 'In my last apartment, I had so many empty shelves; I just bought things to fill them. Now we have a few beautiful things instead of a load of stuff that means nothing. Everything we have holds more value. You consume less in a small space - we only have what we need.'
